In auto category, the first week of racing on the Dakar 2022 takes on the appearance of a duel at the top between Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) and Sébastien Loeb (BRX). The Qatari struck first by winning the prologue and the first stage, but their French rival responded the next day by winning the second stage. However, during the third stage contested on Tuesday, the nine-time world rally champion suffered a transmission breakage, causing him to lose half an hour. On Sunday, it was the title holder Stéphane Peterhansel (Audi) who had given up all hope of keeping his trophy after damaging the rear end of his hybrid prototype.

In the general classification, Nasser Al-Attiyah and Sébastien Loeb are separated by 37 minutes. In motorcycles too, a Frenchman is racing to try to win his first Dakar. This is’Adrien Van Beveren (Yamaha), currently second in the category, just four seconds behind Briton Sam Sunderland (KTM).
