The first images of the future electric Renault 4 are already leaking on the net, showing the lines of the zero-emission crossover.
At the moment, a lot is happening on the side of Renault, which recently put in place a vast recovery plan aimed at getting off to a good start after a difficult period following the Carlos Ghosn affair. Now led by former Seat boss, Italian Luca de Meo, the diamond firm has now taken a whole new turn, more than ever focused on electric, as evidenced by the revelation of the Renault Megane e-Vision concept. , embodying the future of the former management. But it does not intend to stop there, on the contrary, while an unprecedented city car is already in preparation: the Renault 5. Unveiled a few months ago in the form of a very promising concept, this future arrival in the range is inspired by the original version launched in the 1970s, while being resolutely in tune with the times with its electric motorization. But Renault wants to go even further, by reviving another of its icons, namely the Renault 4. Indeed, for several months, rumors have been rife on the return of the city car, which could be reborn in another form.
But for several months, radio silence. No information has yet been revealed on this future creation, which has not yet been officially mentioned by the leaders of the diamond brand. However, we know that it will indeed see the light of day, as confirmed by images of the prototype, taken from the patent filed last November by Renault with the EPO, the body in charge of these documents. They are our colleagues on the site Autovision who managed to get their hands on these photos, which therefore give us a very good idea of the style of the car, which will now take the form of a compact crossover. At first glance, the parentage link between this prototype and the original version is quite difficult to perceive, but the designers have nevertheless endeavored to keep certain elements, such as the wide grille, integrating two small lights. These now become rectangular, adopting a more futuristic shape.
Launch in 2023?
In profile, the two versions actually have little to do with, while the modern reinterpretation of the Renault 4L adopts a higher ground clearance, giving it the air of small SUV compact. However, we find a quarter panel window relatively similar to the original version, sounding like a discreet homage to the version launched in the 1960s. The rear, however, has little to see, except perhaps the lights, which remain in vertical position. For the time being, no technical information has yet been revealed on this future electric Renault 4L, which could then see the light of day in 2023, following the launch of the new Renault 5. The two could then share the same engine, whose characteristics have not yet been detailed. Anyway, it is rumored that this future 4L could then be named Renault 4Ever, a name that has already been registered by the diamond brand a few months ago.
