BMW hopes that its two 5 Series engine types will sell equally. The Bavarian firm predicts success for its new i5, the electric version of the sedan.
The new generation of BMW’s large sedan is available in two versions. On one side, the classic 5 Series, and on the other side, the new fully electric i5. This is obviously a gamble for BMW, which however has high hopes for the latter.
Indeed, a spokesperson for the brand revealed that the objective was to sell as much of one as the other. It is precisely in Europe that these sales will be “equally divided”.
According to BMW, this division will not necessarily be immediate, but will take place over the life cycle of the model. Additionally, the firm predicts that the i5 will make up 30% of 5 Series sales globally.
Test – BMW i5: small but well balanced
The fact that global electric sales are less important than those in Europe comes from the fact that certain markets in which BMW sells its cars have not made as much progress on the energy transition.
In addition, the first years should give the advantage to the thermal version. After that, the trend should gradually reverse. Deliveries of the electric version, like those of the 5 Series, have already started in Europe.
