Toyota will launch a small SUV in 2024, which will become its most affordable electric model. This model is prefigured by this concept car, which is reminiscent of a Suzuki.
Toyota has clarified its program for electric vehicles on the Old Continent. By 2026, the bZ4X will be joined by five other models. Two will be launched in 2024, two SUVs: a compact, prefigured a year ago by the bZ Compact concept, then an even smaller one, announced today by this prototype simply named Urban SUV Concept.
If this name suggests a city car size, the style study still stretches over 4.30 meters, when a Yaris Cross stops at 4.18 meters. Toyota, however, confirms that this will indeed be the entry into its new electric range. We would therefore see it being called bZ2x… even if we note that the concept does not use the name bZ like the one presented last year.
With its angular wheel arches and swollen fenders, the Urban adopts a muscular silhouette… which reminds us of something. If some see the Jeep Avenger in the profile, we mainly think of Suzuki’s eVX concept. And look closely, the side glazing is similar between the two concepts, just like the lights!
While Toyota and Suzuki already share many models around the world, there is little doubt that the production versions of these two electric SUVs will be designed on the same mold. The differences should mainly be at the front end!
Toyota is already promising two- and four-wheel drive variants. It also announces two battery sizes, without saying more. But Suzuki has already mentioned a range of 500 km. The basis seems to be taken from the bZ4x, with the e-TNGA platform. But we don’t know any more. Another kept secret: the interior, not shown.
But we will find out quite quickly, because the brand has confirmed a presentation of the final model from the first half of 2024. We therefore expect orders to open by the end of next year.
