Zapping Auto Moto Renault Rafale: first contact with the large SUV cut from the Losange
During the Kenshiki Forum, a mini-show organized in Belgium by Toyota and Lexus, the Japanese brand presented several vehicles which will fill its portfolio by 2026. The first to arrive on the market will be an electric urban SUV, prefigured by this concept with the eponymous name.
The Toyota Urban SUV Concept is intended to be the 100% electric counterpart of the Yaris Cross, a real success in Europe with its hybrid engine. However, the future electric SUV is a little larger, with 4.30 m long, 1.82 m wide and 1.62 m high, compared to 4.18 m for the Yaris Cross. Enough to aim head-on at the Peugeot e-2008 (4.30 m), opposing it with an equally elaborate style.
The concept adopts Toyota’s new styling identity, with a C-shaped lighting signature at the front like the Prius and C-HR. The mirrors are replaced by cameras, and the door handles are flush at the front, while they are hidden in the pillars at the rear. The shields, rocker panels and wheel arches appear to be made from recycled materials, like the new Dacia Duster. At the rear, the study has a light strip connecting the two lights. Above the reduced and slightly raked rear window is a two-part spoiler.
Technical characteristics still secret
For the moment, Toyota is not showing anything about the interior of this future vehicle. We also don’t know what power it will have, nor the rest of its technical sheet: battery, charging capacity… We just know that it is based on the e-TNGA platform shared by other electric Toyotas like the big brother bZ4x. The production urban SUV will be entitled to two architectures, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and “will offer the choice between two batteries to meet different customer priorities in terms of autonomy and accessibility” according to Toyota.
To find out more, you will have to wait until the first quarter of 2024, the planned presentation date of the production model. Production should then take place by the end of 2024.
