Tesla will restart construction of a new part of its Shanghai Gigafactory. Elon Musk’s firm is preparing the factory to build its future entry-level car.
Since spring 2023, Tesla has been looking into expanding its very efficient Chinese factory. The manufacturer had announced a new part for its Shanghai structure. In this, the manufacturer plans to manufacture batteries, at a rate of 40 GWh per year.
This third phase has been preparing since 2021 in the electric car factory. But after a pause in 2022, the development of the new building will soon begin.
The production capacity of this new part of the factory will, however, have a specific objective. Indeed, according to the Late Auto Post, this production will be intended for the new $25,000 Tesla.
The one often referred to as Model 2 will be the third model that the Shanghai Gigafactory will produce. For the moment, Chinese infrastructure produces Model 3s and Model Ys.
This battery production unit, which Tesla calls Megafactory, will be the first outside the USA. According to the newspaper which addresses the subject, this will allow him to benefit from CATL cells initially. The batteries produced there will be intended for global production of the new model.
