BMW is taking advantage of CES in Las Vegas to present a slightly special iX concept, capable of changing colors at the press of a button.
Today, auto shows seem to have less and less success with manufacturers, who now prefer to exhibit at events dedicated to tech. the Las Vegas CES is also the most glaring example, while many brands are now present, and take the opportunity to unveil new models and technologies. We are thinking in particular of Mercedes, which presented its 100% electric Vision EQXX concept a few days ago, but another manufacturer has also been making a lot of talk lately. It is about BMW, which has just lifted the veil on a very astonishing prototype on the occasion of the North American show.
Many advantages
With the push of a button, the BMW iX unveiled on the brand’s stand is then able to change color from white to gray in a matter of seconds. A still new technology, inspired by digital books, since the vehicle is completely covered with a film similar to that used for these objects, containing millions of pigments which react to a weak electric current. The project manager, Stella Clarke also points out that it will be possible to do the same thing with many other colors, even if it will undoubtedly be necessary to wait more than ten years before being able to see it arriving on a production vehicle.
This innovation is not just a simple gadget, since it would have many uses. In addition to ultimately allowing the broadcast messages, the color change could also benefit the efficiency of the car, which would then change color depending on the weather, in order to maintain an optimal operating temperature.
