On the sidelines of the Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota is preparing the ground with two teasers announcing surprises: a supercharged Yaris GR and a new GT3 racing concept.
Toyota is preparing the opening of the Tokyo Motor Show, which will be held from January 14 to 16, 2022. Japanese manufacturer announces two big surprises on its stand through teasers. A first photo in the half-light shows a Yaris GR which is intended to be more radical, while a second photo illustrates the GR GT3 concept, which will tackle the circuits.
A more radical Yaris GR, is it possible?
For several months, while the Yaris GR we know was not even marketed yet, the rumor of an even more radical variant hovered. Already enjoyable with its 261 hp 1.6 three-cylinder (in Europe, against 272 hp in Japan) and all-wheel drive, the angry city car should therefore be reworked with aerodynamic appendages. We thus notice a fixed spoiler at the rear, while side fins and specific shields should be installed. on the bombinette.
The more radical Yaris GR, whose name we do not yet know, could also call upon composite materials to further reduce its weight, while superfluous elements like the back seat should disappear. On the other hand, the engine could remain the same, whereas one could have expected a few more horsepower. Answer in a few days !
An unexpected GR GT3 concept
Toyota is also taking advantage of this pre-show teasing to announce the presentation of a new concept: the GR GT3. This model would be used for competition in the GT3 category, where Toyota is already involved with a Supra GR GT3. This time it would be a completely specific model, unlike any other model in the range. The line is still hidden in the semi-darkness, but we already notice a very tapered profile and a very long hood. A style that is somewhat reminiscent of the AMG GT. On the back, an imposing pie server-style spoiler.
