At the beginning of last December, the future of Charles Leclerc’s contract with Scuderia Ferrari, expiring at the end of the 2024 season, caused a lot of noise. Indeed, the Gazzetta dello Sport had revealed that a 5 year extension had been signed between the two parties, with an annual salary of up to 50 million euros.
However, over the following weeks, the Prancing Horse stable had still not made an announcement to this effect. At the end of December, Frédéric Vasseur, the director of Scuderia Ferrari, explained this, justifying the delay in the contractual negotiation by the strong sporting demands at the end of the season, in the context of the duel with The Mercedes team, which became vice-world champion by 3 points ahead of Ferrari.
Contract extension “beyond the 2024 season”
Maranello’s response finally came on Thursday January 25. At around 2:30 p.m., Scuderia Ferrari announced the formalization of the extension of Charles Leclerc’s contract.
However, quite surprisingly, no deadline is communicated on this occasion. The Prancing Horse stable simply indicates that the Monegasque’s contract has been extended “beyond the 2024 season.”
As a reminder, Charles Leclerc has worn the colors of Ferrari since the start of the 2019 season. Last season, he won 5 pole positions, but no victory (2nd in Austria, in Las Vegas and in Abu Dhabi), to finish in 5th rank of championshipjust ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz (206 points to 200).
