It was a real thunderclap (translation from Italian Folgore) that fell on the Maserati factory in Modena, Italy. The luxury manufacturer of the Stellantis group has already made its Grecale SUV and its GranTurismo sports car electric. You can already configure your ideal version, and soon even customize it outside the catalog. Other models will follow, starting this year with the GranCabrio.
It is under the name “ Thunderbolt » that Maserati has decided to build its electric range. Like the thermal models, those which will complete this new collection are designed, developed and built in Italy at the factory that the manufacturer has occupied for more than 80 years, “ Viale Ciro Menotti ».
« Driven by our heart of Modena, we are doing everything we can to lead change in electrification, with two of our iconic models already available to buy in their 100% electric versions, and another on the way this year “, explains Davide Grasso, CEO of the company.
The change of direction must not, however, sacrifice one of the specificities of the manufacturer which could constitute its strength on the trendy market: “ We want to stand out in the world of luxury with unique Italian manufacturing excellence, constantly promoting distinctive quality and building our future with a dedicated business model that guarantees our customers the best products ».
The Maserati brand has not always had a serene and quiet ride. She seems to stand up and claims to lean on “ a solid business model » to project oneself « in an electric future » which could strengthen its presence in the luxury segment. And this, ” maintaining production volumes and profitable margins ».
The whole range soon in electric
The year 2024 presents itself as a real turning point in the history of Maserati. However, innovation and the move towards sustainable mobility will not be achieved by sacrificing the company’s performance or growth. After the Grecale SUV, the sporty GranTurismo and soon the convertible GranCabrio, all models in the range will have an electric version from sometime in 2025.
This will be the case for the Maserati MC20 supercar. It will be followed in 2027 by a large SUV, then the following year, later than originally planned, with the new generation of the Quattroporte sedan. We will then be in 2028, a new pivotal stage. By this time, the manufacturer should only sell electric cars.
The first Italian luxury brand to become trendy, it had until then exported 86% of its production to 70 countries around the world. Will gradually declining to electric change this balance? Difficult to say, but Davide Grasso is enthusiastic: “ We will offer our privileged customers the most powerful Maseratis ever created, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure into a new era ».
More generally, this dazzling shift is part of Stellantis’ strategic plan. Dare Forward 2023 » revealed in March 2022.

Conversion of the Modena factory
The Modena factory will gradually convert to all-electric, starting with the Grecale and the GranTurismo. Priced from 125,850 euros, the first is an SUV with a range of up to 501 km thanks to its lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 105 kWh.
It intelligently includes a 22 kW charger to make the most of alternating current terminals in public spaces. Its curve for high power can climb up to 150 kW. The pack powers an engine which develops a power of 404 kW (550 hp) for a torque of 820 Nm. This allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, before racing towards the speed of peak of 220 km/h.
The numbers are racing with the sporty GranTurismo Folgore. Already the entry ticket: 196,950 euros, well no 199,900 euros, ah well now it’s 202,300 euros: the Maserati configurator don’t really know. In any case, this price is justified in particular by a 560 kW (761 hp) engine capable of delivering a torque of 1,350 Nm. Obviously, achieving 100 km/h from a standstill only requires 2.7 seconds, before looking to get as fast as lightning up to 325 km/h.
With an architecture that adopts 800 V, high-power charging can approach 270 kW with compatible infrastructure. Provided you are wise, the 92.5 kWh battery gives this car a range of up to 455 km. Note that the configurator promises you the same thing in miles! There is the same error with the more stable priced Grecale.
A wealth of wealth to exploit internally
To convince its customers with its electric models, the manufacturer intends to make the most of the full potential of the Modena factory. Thus the 130 in-house engineers and technicians who will work with the Maserati Engin Lab responsible for developing and testing electric powertrains.
« This strong team will jointly build the future of Trident and take the iconic brand to new heights, as it deserves », We promise the management also on site.
The site will also host what the manufacturer calls “ The Fuoriserie “. This is a program open to electric vehicles in particular and allowing you to personalize your Maserati according to your own inspiration, possibly with the help of suggestions. At the end, the resulting model appears unique, improved on site and tailor-made.
