Lando Norris (McLaren) recorded a contract extension at the end of January, like Charles Leclerc (Ferrari). While that of the Monegasque expired at the end of this year, the Briton was already assured of remaining in orange until 2025, following a relatively recent extension, since it took place at the beginning of 2022.
“I feel like I’m ready to face Max and Lewis and fight against them”
In both cases, Ferrari and McLaren did not specify a duration, indicating a “multi-year” extension. Therefore, by being credited with two extensions in barely two years, Lando Norris (McLaren) clearly demonstrates his intention to trust the Woking team, with which he started in F1 in 2019.
Despite the lack of success to date, the Bristol native gained momentum last year, managing to climb onto the podium 7 times, including 6 times on the second step. Thus, in an interview given to the official F1 website, Lando Norris expressed his common ambitions with McLaren, in order to challenge the supremacy of Max Verstappen and Red Bull, revealing the expected deadlines to be regularly in the fight for victory, then for a possible world title.
Lando Norris :
“It’s both the team’s goal (the world title, editor’s note) and also a personal goal that I’ve always had. Am I convinced I can do it? Yes. Am I convinced the team can do it? Yes. It’s everything that goes on every day, the people that are here, the work ethic, the mentality, the whole approach. There were times when we were close to winning races last year, and a few races where we weren’t miles away from a Red Bull. When you think about it, that Red Bull was the most competitive car of all time in F1, and in some races we were extremely, extremely close to it. We have never been this close (to victory, editor’s note) since I have been here and for many, many years, but fighting for a championship is a bigger step. If you ask me if I think I can win races this year, I’d be more inclined to say yes, but to go straight to winning races and a championship, I think that’s another level. Do I think we are ready to challenge them? Yes, absolutely. In some situations we fought against Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, going head to head with them in strategy, pit stops, all those things, and the majority of times we executed them. extremely good. When it comes to pressure, I think everyone is in a very good position, but as soon as we talk about fighting for a championship, everyone’s mentality changes a little bit. But I feel like I’m ready to face Max and Lewis and fight against them. So, yes, fighting for the championship, I don’t know for when, but I would like to say over the next two years, 2026 is an opportunity for everyone on the grid (with the new regulations, editor’s note), it’s So is the big question mark. We’ll see how we do this year and you can ask me that question again.”
