While Dacia had already revealed the identity of its trio of drivers last year, namely Sébastien LoebCristina Gutierrez et Nasser Al-Attiyah, an essential element of his future involvement in rally-raid still remained to be discovered. In this case, the vehicle which will be lined up in this framework, in particular during the Dakar 2025, next January.
Last Tuesday, during the presentation of the Renault group brand held in the Paris region, the veil has therefore fallen on this prototype called Sandrider. For the occasion, Dacia has listed all the characteristics of this machine equipped with a tubular chassis and a carbon fiber body, which will be able to compete for overall victory by being approved in the premier Ultimate T1+ category.
Design work focused on optimizing aerodynamics and total weight
Inspired by the Manifesto concept car, presented at the end of 2022, the Sandrider boasts a length of 4.14 meters and features a twin-turbo V6 with a displacement of 3 liters, 360 horsepower, an engine using synthetic fuel supplied by Aramco (technical sheet at the bottom of the page). In a process of maximum efficiency, Dacia reveals that “engineers achieved a 10% reduction in drag and 40% reduction in lift compared to comparable prototypes”focusing on a design optimized for competition, with a short front hood intended to improve the vision of the driver and co-driver, like this anti-reflective paint affixed to the upper part of the dashboard.
The brand indicates that its design work also focused on optimizing the total weight, “reduced approximately 15 kg compared to comparable prototypes by using a lighter tubular chassis, removing all unnecessary body panels and using carbon for others, eliminating all decorative elements, and opting for a more compact and lighter engine. To optimize the traction and dynamic behavior of Sandrider, the weight distribution between the front and rear has been significantly increased at the front.”
