Zapping Auto Moto Alpine A110 MP-RC test: a real racing car at a good price?
For several months now, the threat of an MG-badged city car has hovered over the competition comfortably established on the European market. We know the Sino-British manufacturer is particularly sharp, price-wise, particularly since the fanfare introduction of its 100% electric compact MG4 which very quickly found a place in the sun. Logically, the arrival of a city car aiming to challenge the hegemony of the Clio, 208, C3 and other Yaris makes the latter fear the worst.
A very generous engine
And mainly to Clio and Yaris equipped with full-hybrid engines (145 and 130 hp respectively), since the recent revelations from our colleagues at L’Automobile Magazine. According to them, the new MG3 will claim no less than 180 hp, a pretty level of power for a city car, as versatile as it is, although it does not really aspire to a sporting career. Although, its big sister MG4 took everyone by surprise last year by unveiling an extravagant 435 hp variant under the name X Power, marketed at a ridiculous price (€33,490) given its impressive cavalry.
The queens of the segment in danger?
Still according to L’Automobile Magazine, its CO2 emissions would remain below 100 g/km, thus excluding any application of ecological penalty. But the real achievement on the part of this new 180 hp hybrid MG3 will above all be its ability to maintain a price below €20,000, when the Clio (145 hp) demands at least €23,800. But overall, it is all the city cars in the B segment (208, Polo, Corsa, etc.) which can already make a fuss. The latter will definitely know in what sauce they risk being eaten when the MG3 officially reveals the extent of its characteristics at the Geneva Motor Show on February 26.
