This time, the all-new Ypsilon is official. The firm’s first 100% electric model, it marks the great renaissance of Lancia.
Seen a few weeks ago without camouflage, the new Ypsilon is now official. Lancia has just published the first photos of the car, its first major novelty since… the previous Ypsilon in 2011!
2024 is therefore the year of the great relaunch for the Italian label, which has only existed in Italy for several years. With this new Ypsilon, the manufacturer will make its return to the main European markets, including France. The car also marks Lancia’s arrival on the electric car market.
To design its new city car, Lancia started from an existing base, that of the Peugeot 208. The brand followed the strategy pushed by Carlos Tavares, big boss of Stellantis, that of sister cars. Basically, to save money, everything that is not visible is common!
The Ypsilon even takes the structure of the Peugeot, which can be seen from certain angles for the general silhouette. But Lancia designers have worked hard to personalize the exterior look and it is not possible to confuse 208 and Ypsilon.
This relaunch is obviously an opportunity to implement new aesthetic codes. This Ypsilon notably reinterprets the chalice-shaped grille. This is now formed by a large light signature in three parts, on a black background. Exit the logo, we find above a monogram in full letters. The main optics have been lowered into the shield, they seem particularly vulnerable.
In profile, the Ypsilon hides its rear door handles, at the level of a black quarter panel which forms the link between the side glazing and the rear window. For the rear part, Lancia took inspiration from its legendary Stratos. We thus find round optics, connected by a black headband.
As with the exterior, the interior uses a 208 base, but the appearance is largely revised. The Lancia is distinguished in particular by a surprising element in the center, a sort of small table high up, a nod to Italian know-how in furniture. Moreover, the Ypsilon is launched with a special series produced in partnership with Cassina. 1906 examples are planned, in a nod to the year of birth of Lancia.
Lancia does not yet go into technical details. We just know that the electric version announces a range in the WLTP mixed cycle of 403 km. We imagine that we will find the same 156 hp engine as on the 208!
For the complete presentation, and our first impressions on board, an appointment is made in mid-February.
