Unlike Yamaha, Alex Rins had the opportunity to climb on the first step of a podium in 2023. It was last spring, during his victory in Austin in the Grand Prix of the Americas, riding Team LCR’s private Honda.
“The bike seems easy to handle, so I think I can improve further during the Sepang test”
Above all, the Spaniard is now credited with a wealth of experience in MotoGP from different machines, having previously been part of Suzuki’s official program, abruptly interrupted at the end of 2022. Thus, his profile has caught the attention of Yamaha, in search with a new lease of life to try to get back to the forefront.
Taking over from the Italian Franco Morbidelli, Alex Rins missed riding at the end of last season due to a right leg injury. From then on, the new teammate of Fabio Quartararo must implement its ability to adapt to the handlebars of the new Yamaha motorcycle, unveiled this Monday in Sepang (Malaysia) on the eve of the start of the official pre-season test, from February 6 to 8.
Alex Rins :
“I already had my first taste of the M1 while working with the Yamaha team at the Valencia test and Shakedown, but today’s season launch event has me excited again like it’s It was the first day. We had a good first run in testing in Valencia, so I’m quite happy with that, and I’m looking forward to continuing the work here at Sepang tomorrow. I have a lot to try, but I feel confident. The bike seems easy to handle, so I think I can improve further during the Sepang test. I worked a lot on my physical condition to get here at the best possible level, and now I just want to start riding again!”
