The question of Hamilton’s future is on everyone’s lips. Alain Prost gave his opinion in an interview with Journal du Dimanche.
The grand finale of this 2021 Formula 1 season dealt a huge blow to Lewis Hamilton. A championship battle with rare intensity and the loss of the title to Max Verstappen on the last lap of the last race of the season left him with a bitter taste. Since that famous December 12, the Briton remained silent on social networks. And the crazy rumor of not seeing him on the 2022 Formula 1 grid swells with time.
And while he is under contract with Mercedes until 2023, his team even comes to doubt him. According to a source close to the world champion team, Toto Wolff would consider finding a replacement for their star driver, in case of an alternative. But Alain Prost, quadruple French world champion, preferred to put the situation into perspective by trying to put himself in the place of the Mercedes driver, during a interview in the Journal du Dimanche :
“It’s hard to put yourself in his shoes. He surely has as many reasons to stop as to continue in Formula 1. It’s 50-50. He took a hell of a blow to the head, but it would be really sad if he wasn’t here this season.
I want to remain optimistic, because there is this eighth title to go and these new technical regulations, with maybe three teams and four or five drivers vying for the title. It’s a challenge Hamilton might want to take on. ”
Will we see Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes garage during pre-season testing in Barcelona on February 23?
