While Marc Marquez has gone from day to night since his first discovery of the Ducati, at the end of 2023, Fabio Quartararo seems to be experiencing an opposite dynamic. Indeed, compared to the very average level displayed last season, the Frenchman has visibly regained confidence behind the Yamaha handlebars.
“It is very important that we stay focused because I feel we have the potential”
After a shakedown satisfactory, the 2021 world champion had high expectations from the start of the official pre-season test, this Tuesday in Sepang. Indeed, the day after the presentation 2024 of the Yamaha team, he was preparing to cross swords with the entire field, in particular the titular riders of Ducati, KTM, GasGas and Aprilia, absent from the shakedown.
In the midst of fierce competition, Fabio Quartararo concluded this first day test in 3rd place out of 23 riders, less than three tenths of a second from the benchmark established by Jorge Martin (Ducati Pramac). From then on, it was with boosted morale that the Niçois analyzed his performance of the day, while looking ahead to Wednesday.
“I felt good! Basically, today we didn’t really test anything new. I tested a lot of electronics and settings on the bike. From the outside, you can’t really see what I tested, but it was a positive day. Tomorrow we will work in the same way and I think it is very important that we stay focused because I feel we have the potential, but we still have to find it. The plan for tomorrow is the same as for today: trying to find the best electronic setup and also trying to find the best set-up for the bike. This changes because of the new aerodynamics, we have to adjust the balance of the bike. But I’m pretty happy with the way we work as a team.” (Yamaha official website)
