Consistently ranked in the top 6 in qualifying this season, the Frenchman has brought in most of Alpha Tauri’s points. He therefore exemplifies himself as a seasoned and complete pilot: consistency, speed, running intelligence and perseverance. So he ends up being rewarded by realizing a podium at Baku and by finishing 9th in the general classification of pilots with 110 points.
It is therefore clear that the Alpha pilot Tauri fully rebounded from his failure at Red Bull and emerges even better from this adventure. This is what allowed him to become the pilot he is today and to achieve the best season of his career. This is the observation he made with our colleagues from Motorsport :
« This year has obviously been extremely good, and I think I have been able to really show my potential, and on more than one occasion for that matter. If you are at the back of the middle of the platoon, but let’s say that you have two amazing results and you get one P9 and an P8 like twice a year; even that is amazing, and no one will notice you.
For me, that was the main thing, to be able to show my skills, my speed. Obviously there are always a lot of areas to work on, but it’s great to say that I’ve achieved what I’ve done best so far in my F1 career.
I was in a leadership position at Alpha Tauri with Yuki as rookie. I had the whole team focused on me and trying to bring the most points to the team. That’s why we managed to sometimes do better than what we had, because the guys put so much effort and attention on me that we were able to do better on certain occasions. Whichever team you’re on, this is the status you need to have if you want to perform at your best. ”
This good performance and the regulatory and technical revolution of the 2022 season, allows him to have good ambitions for next year. However, he says he is quite cautious and realistic:
Great things can be achieved, but I also think you have to be realistic. I want to be Formula 1 world champion. It is extremely difficult when you are fighting against teams like Mercedes, with the resources and the knowledge that they have gained in recent years. You can see sometimes that the fight in the front met more pressure, you can’t afford to make some mistakes, you have to be on top of everything. ”
Only time will tell if the Alpha Tauri will be performing during the 2022 season. It is impossible to predict any ranking even before the first pre-season testing. However, one thing is certain, Pierre Gasly says he is ready and confident to achieve his goal which is to “ fight for a world championship in my career« .
