It is an eccentric story that relates RMC. That of Sébastien, resident of the Lyon region and owner of an electric vehicle. Although he bought this vehicle out of concern for ecology and preservation of the environment,… he finds himself having to pay dearly for access to his recycling center.
In fact, his vehicle is considered too heavy by the authorities managing the famous recycling center. In Greater Lyon, entry fees to recycling centers are based on weight. However, the small electric utility vehicle purchased a year ago by Sébastien is heavier than the equivalent model running on diesel that he drove in the past.
And the latter having to pay 40 euros during his first visit to the recycling center. With almost four visits per month, this represents a significant additional budget. Enough to demoralize Sébastien, as he explains to RMC :
“I went to the recycling center without any worries, four times a month if I wanted, for free. And there, having changed vehicles, as it’s electric, suddenly, it’s billed due to its overweight .”
“The green mayor encourages people to change vehicles, to drive less and to pollute less. Hence my incomprehension of charging for an electric vehicle, when the same vehicle in diesel or gasoline will not be charged for the passage.”
Within 10 kilos…
A situation that the authorities of Greater Lyon assume. The metropolis has already adapted its regulations. For thermal vehicles weighing less than two tonnes, entry is free. For electric ones, this increases to 2.4 tonnes.
However, our interlocutor’s electric Berlingo exceeds this mark of 2.4 tonnes by… 10 small kilos! A “isolated case”with a “number of complaints on this subject (…) very low”ensures the metropolis to RMC. A way, also, to sanction SUVs, again and again… Did you say “consistency”?
