True to form, Volkswagen is increasing the number of models in China. With the launch of the new ID.7 S, customers will now have the choice between two different ID.7s.
There will be not one but two ID.7s offered on the Chinese market. The path was clear from the presentation of the ID.7 at the Shanghai Motor Show last April. The stand hosted the Next ID “concept”. The first images of its production version, which is called ID.7 S, are part of the latest batch of photos published each month by the MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology).
This ID.7 S therefore adopts a specific face, with a new hood/wings/shield/headlights assembly. Same program at the rear, with tailgate, shield and lights which have been changed compared to the ID.7 known in Europe and already sold in China.
This new design results in the lengthening of the car, which goes from 4956 to 5026 mm. The other dimensions are unchanged. Furthermore, no changes are expected on the mechanical part. We will therefore find propulsion versions of 150 kW or 4-wheel drive of 230 kW and an 84.8 kWh battery for 642 km of autonomy (CLTC cycle).
Volkswagen ID.7: a price already falling for the electric sedan
Why these two different ID.7s? Quite simply to fuel the two joint ventures. The current ID.7 is produced and sold by FAW-Volkswagen, under the name ID.7 Vizzion. This ID.7 S will be produced and sold by SAIC-Volkswagen… The tactic has been in force for many years and applies to almost the entire range, sometimes with real specific models, sometimes with simple cosmetic touch-ups.
In the electric camp, the ID.4 and ID.6 already benefit from this treatment: ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz at FAW-VW, ID.4 X and ID.6 X at SAIC-VW. The ID.3 escapes this rule. It is only offered by SAIC-VW.
