The restyling of the Audi A3 was initially due to be presented in the summer of 2023, after three years of life, in order to put the German compact back on track for its second part of its career. But the update had been delayed for several months in order to refine the developments, leaving Audi in a quandary for its very quiet product plan that year. Never mind, the manufacturer is planning a few more new products in 2024, with the restyled Q7 and RS6 GT already presented, as well as the new Q6 e-tron electric SUV planned for the spring. Before that, the brand will finally present its restyled A3, the first details of which we are discovering today.
The German compact, launched in 2020 for its current generation, will receive a new Allstreet version with an adventurous look, like its little sister A1 Allstreet (previously called Citycarver), in addition to Sportback and Sedan bodies. In addition, the sporty S3 and RS3 versions remain on the program. To keep us waiting before the official reveal, Audi is revealing information and photos of its restyled S3, currently being tested in Oman (Middle East). Thanks to the photos, we see that the aesthetic should not be transfigured. To see what’s changing, it’s easy: just look at what’s painted in fluorescent orange: the bumpers (enlarged air intakes, grille with redesigned pattern, logo placed higher towards the hood, etc.) and rocker panels. , the rims or even the sportier diffuser at the rear. It incorporates an Akrapovic exhaust with two double outlets. The LED light signature has also been revised. Audi does not yet show a photo of the interior but it should also be reworked.
A more powerful engine
In a press release, Audi emphasizes the changes made to its sports S3. So, we already know that the compact still benefits from its 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder gasoline engine, but it has been largely reworked with increased power. It offers 333 hp and 420 Nm of torque, or 23 hp and 20 Nm more. This is exactly the same power as the “20 year old” Volkswagen Golf R cousin. 0 to 100 km/h is thus achieved in 4.7 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The Audi also borrows from its cousin Golf R and the Audi RS3 and Cupra Formentor the torque distributor with multi-disc clutch which allows torque to be better distributed between the rear wheels for greater efficiency in sporty driving. A new “Dynamic plus” driving mode appears, offering more direct throttle response and more adapted gear changes: earlier downshifting and later revs.
Audi specifies that the S3 benefits from a revised McPherson front axle with more camber at the front (almost doubled) and progressive steering as standard for more precision. It also receives more powerful brakes and more efficient 19-inch 235/35 tires supplied by Falken. Finally, adjustments to the electronics are also on the program, in particular with a new generation of electronic stabilization control (ESC).
A presentation by spring?
For the moment, Audi has not yet given a date for the presentation of its A3 and the S3 and RS3. However, the compact should arrive by spring, for a presentation later this year. In any case, Audi will not present it at the Geneva Motor Show (from February 26 to March 3) since no brand from the Volkswagen group will make the trip.
