Toyota GRMN Yaris (2022): an even more extreme limited series
ADVERTISEMENT

The already legendary Toyota GR Yaris returns in an even more sassy configuration. What are the characteristics of this GRMN Yaris?

Toyota GRMN Yaris (2022) – Haloed by a slew of awards having considered her as the best sportswoman of the year 2021, the Toyota GR Yaris could have been content to leave it at that. But its designers wanted pushing the limits of its characteristics a little further to offer this limited edition of 500 copies, unfortunately intended exclusively for the Japanese market.

Only for Japan

The Tokyo Motor Show opened in mid-January with this even more “hardcore” version of Toyota’s city car. Baptized GRMN Yaris, it is not planned, for the moment, that it leaves its native island, to the great regret of GTi enthusiasts of all persuasions. Warning : frustrations ahead! And enough to boost the rating of its little sister once again, which is already snapping up second-hand at exorbitant prices, because of its rarity.

Similar power

If the new Toyota GRMN Yaris renews the 261 hp from the 3-cylinder of the GR, it revises its torque measurement slightly upwards to gain 20 Nm and peak at 390 Nm. It also tightens the relations of its 6-speed manual transmission, for more nervousness, and hopes to improve its passages in curves by swapping its Torsen-type differential for a limited-slip technology, both front and rear.

The big names in the preparation

The running gear is also characterized by the adoption of BBS rims in 18″, developed to measure, an increased braking system andadjustable shock absorbers from specialist Bilstein. Compared to GR, this GRMN Yaris saves 20 kg on the scale, despite the appearance of a huge spoiler atop its tailgate. But this one is sunk in the carbon fiber, just like the bonnet. She also takes care of her line by deletion of the rear seat and the installation, at the front, of Recaro bucket seats. Finally, the rigidity of the body is improved by the addition of 545 additional welding points on the carcass.

The new Toyota GRMN Yaris leaves the choice, as an option, between the Circuit pack or the Rally pack which lowers the weight by about thirty kilograms, and benefits from new shock absorbers, stabilizer bars, and of course a rollbar. Finally, an even more limited version (50 ex.) makes it possible to obtain a Matte Steel paint finish.

Prix Toyota GRMN Yaris

Japanese prices for the Toyota GRMN Yaris start at 7,317,000 yen (56 000 €) and increases to 8,467,000 yen (€65,000) for the Circuit Pack and 8,378,764 yen (€64,000) for the Rally Pack. Toyota will organize a lottery to draw lots for the 500 future happy owners of this Yaris of all the devils, already cult!
