Tesla is updating its Model Y and Model 3 lines with good and not so good surprises. We take a look at these changes.
Tesla: Autonomy up on Model Y, down on Model 3 – At the start of the year, the entry-level products of the Californian manufacturer operate a new choice of battery which benefits the SUV, when they slightly harm the Grand Autonomie variant of the sedan.
Elon Musk’s two bestsellers have chosen toone and the same original LG low voltage battery, with a capacity of 79 kWh. Lighter, it also makes it possible to rationalize production costs.
LG otherwise nothing
For the Tesla Model Y, which previously took advantage of a 75 kWh LG “battery” and an 82 kWh Panasonic, this results in a gain of 32 km of autonomy for the Long Autonomy variant which goes from 538 to 565 km, when she chooses 19″ rims. In 20″, the same model can reach 533 km against 507 km previously. As for the new Model Y Performance version, it widens its range of action to 514 km, when the old one capped at 480 km.
On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 Long Autonomy, which until now had an 83 kWh Panasonic battery, sees its autonomy drop from 614 km to 602 km, since it is supplied by LG. It is the only one in the Model 3 range to see its performance modified.
More equipment without price increase
In addition, both benefit from new equipment, ranging from a new on-board computer, with higher computing power, with the addition ofheated wipers, passing through a better sound system, with no price increase. The first deliveries are expected in February, for the Model Y, and in May for the Model 3.
