BMW announces the official stop of the V12 installed in the Series 7. But the manufacturer does not put an end to its program of engines for as much, and continues to develop thermal.
BMW and the V12, it’s over. The manufacturer, which has offered this type of engine in its range for 35 years, announces its final shutdown. Already removed from some catalogs such as in France where the M760Li xDrive disappeared last year, the 7 Series with V12 still has the 6.6 biturbo 608 hp in the United States for a few months. This market will be entitled to an exclusive limited series to mark the end of the block in June.
baptized The Final V12, the special series uses a base BMW M760i xDrive sold in the USA. It stands out with specific badges and a numbered plate, as well as a V12 logo on the trunk. Only 12 copies will be produced from June 2022, from €177,000. Deliveries will take place in July. No photo has been unveiled by the brand apart from the illustration shot of the V12 logo. We only know that the equipment should be more than complete: 20-inch rims, LED or Laser adaptive lights, Merino leather, autonomous parking… As for the colors, the lucky twelve will have a choice since the BMW Individual color program is offered.
Not the end of the thermal though
If this special series sounds the death knell for BMW with V12 engine, the thermal is not abandoned by the brand. The German firm continues to work on internal combustion engines, with a new generation of even cleaner engines. Six-cylinder and eight-cylinder, gasoline or diesel, are thus tested to be marketed in the coming years. And this in order to better manage the transition to electric, which must be done more smoothly with hybrids and rechargeable hybrids for example. Indeed, Europe’s desire to ban the sale of internal combustion vehicles from 2035 seems too radical, and could have serious social consequences according to Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis.
Performance is not forgotten either, as evidenced by the future BMW XM which will embark a 750 hp hybrid V8 engine, the most powerful engine on a production BMW!
