Porsche celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of its Porsche Design division with an unprecedented special series for the 911 and a complete restoration for a 1972 model.
In 1972, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and his brother Hans-Peter founded Porsche Design. This lifestyle brand offers objects derived from the automobile, such as pens, watches, luggage or high-end clothing bearing the manufacturer’s logo. On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the division, the German manufacturer is including in its range an unprecedented special series for its 911 coupé.
A 911 limited to 750 copies and signed
The Porsche 911 50 Years Edition Porsche Design, limited to 750 copies only, is based on a current Targa 4 GTS version. Black inside and out, it is punctuated with details, such as the signature of Ferdinand A. Porsche on the armrest or the badges. The retro black and white micro-check upholstery is complemented by center stripes, while Platinum-coloured side stripes are placed on the profile. These are embellished with the Porsche Design lettering. The platinum gray color is also used on the central arch, Targa version requires. The Targa monogram has also gone matte black, while specific badges take place on the rear cover.
We also note the presence of a watch included in the Sport Chrono pack (offered as standard) which evokes the Chronograph I, one of the first objects sold by Porsche Design. A reissue of this mythical watch is also offered for €10,750 to customers of this special series. The 911 Porsche Design 50th Anniversary Edition is already available to order, starting at €193,081. The arrival in the network is planned from April.
A 1972 model restored for the occasion
To celebrate this anniversary, the Porsche Classic division also paid homage with the complete restoration of an old 911. This example, a 911 T 2.4 Targa from 1972, was in very poor condition at the start. The teams worked for the last two years on the project, transforming it into the S version, which was more powerful at 60 hp at the time. The engine therefore increases to 190 hp, with the reinforcement of a mechanical fuel injection system. Like the special series offered by Porsche, this restored example has a black hue and platinum-coloured details.
In addition to these two commemorative models, Porsche is launching a series of unique derivative objects (sneakers, gloves, bags, wallet, etc.) in its boutique. A temporary exhibition is also organized at the Porsche Museum until July 11, 2022. It traces the life of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and the beginnings of Porsche Design, with the brand’s important creations and its collaborations with other major brands.
