Bigger and more opulent than the 206, this 207 – restyled in 2009 and 2012, where it becomes “+” – enjoys a more rigorous behavior than its predecessor with a less fickle rear axle, while retaining a typical Peugeot driving pleasure with a particularly precise front axle and steering. Driving position, comfort and life on board are also progressing with a much better quality finish and materials, integrating foamed plastics in the upper part of the dashboard (except entry level). Even if its size only benefits very little livability and that the trunk only gains 30 liters (270 liters). Offering the choice between 3 and 5 doors, it is also available in SW station wagon and Coupé-Cabriolet, particularly affordable. Recommended engines: 1.6 VTi 120 petrol with variable valve timing, original PSA-BMW (available with automatic gearbox), and 1.6 HDi 110/112 hp.
RELIABILITY 4/5
Very good reliability, further improved on the 207 +, whose range has been simplified (1.4 liter 70 and 75 hp engines).
- 1.6 VTi engine : EGR management unit to be reprogrammed (reminder in February 2008); overconsumption of oil (cylinder head, oil pump) or coolant (water pump); failed catalysts.
- 1.6 HDi : start-up impossible (water temperature sensor – recall in July 2007).
- Gearbox : hard reports (linkage or cable); fragile clutch bearing on gearbox 5; skating automatic gearbox. (pressure solenoid valve).
