As we know, the automobile market is far from doing its best. Between the never-ending health crisis, a shortage of semiconductors which also seems to drag on and ever-tighter environmental standards, no wonder new car sales are down. And for good reason, the market would have returned to its 1995 level since the start of the crisis, while cars less than two years old posted a 12.4% drop in sales. And the reason is simple: recent vehicles have become too expensive. The fault of safety standards and electrification, which are very expensive and therefore the price is unfortunately passed on to customers. No wonder then that the second hand market either when it is looking good!
A crazy success
According to Autoways, no less than 6 million cars have changed owners over the past year, an increase of 7.9% compared to 2020. Looking in more detail, it is mainly the most popular vehicles over two years old, with sales up 11.9%, peaking at 19.6% for models between two and five years old. From second-hand cars of course, but there is no question of buying vehicles that are too old and therefore very often obsolete.
Looking in a little more detail, it is the Renault Clio, whatever the generation, which appeals the most to motorists, while 406,139 were sold second-hand in 2021. The diamond-shaped city car is then followed by the Citroën C3 and the Volkswagen Golf.
