It’s a faultless day on Friday for Sebastien Loeb. The nine-time world champion wins his 4th special in this Monte-Carlo Rally. He continues to gradually increase in power and widens the gap with Sebastien Ogier, which ranks 3e. The other Frenchman on the field pays for his poor form on the 5th special. He is forced to attack to catch up on his teammate.
Elfyn Evans proves that he may be the man of this 2022 WRC championship. Bathed in regularity, he fits between the two French behemoths. Note the fine performance of Gus Greensmith (Ford M-Sport), who manages to maintain his level throughout the special, to climb to the 4th rank. The Irishman takes the opportunity to get closer to Thierry Neuville (7th on the 6th special) in the general classification.
The pilot field is gradually finding confidence, and sees the gaps between each other narrowing. Error is therefore not allowed to seek victory in this Rallye Monte-Carlo. Place in the general classification:
- Loeb / Galmiche (Ford) : 1:04:38.1
- Evans / Martin (Toyota) : + 14.5 s
- Ogier / Veillas (Toyota): + 15.9 s
- Neuville / Wydaeghe (Hyundai) : + 49.1 s
- Breen / Nagle (Ford) : + 54.2 s
- Tänak / Järveoja (Hyundai): + 56.0 s
- Greensmith / Andersson (Ford) : + 1:01.4 s
