Mercedes G-Class (2022) – Launched in 2018, its look remains nearly identical to the original 1979 model. Thus, the latest generation of G-Class hardly shows the weight of the years, despite its exterior design of archaic appearance. In other words, with a few exceptions, like the outdated infotainment system, the G-Class doesn’t really need an overhaul, and yet this is what Mercedes has started to work on recently.
A taste of EQG
It was during cold weather testing that a camouflaged G-Class was recently spotted by spy photographers, and it features a fairly large amount of camouflage for what should essentially amount to a mild refresh. Still, there aren’t many ways for Mercedes to redesign an icon of the Bauhaus automotive movement. So this second generation of the venerable off-roader should remain largely unchanged when it comes to its exterior design. The modifications will be more extensive on the future electric variant, named EQG, expected in 2023.
Finally the MBUX system
The front and rear bumpers of the thermal model should, however, be slightly redesigned, and the LED taillights could also receive new light signatures. The main changes should be observed on board to receive the latest MBUX infotainment system, the G-Class being the only Mercedes model to currently lack it.
