Ford Puma: E85 combined with micro-hybrid gasoline

Ford is revamping its E85 proposal on the Puma. The SUV now combines the Flexifuel version with a micro-hybrid gasoline unit.

With the rise in fuel prices, some motorists are thinking of switching to E85, which is much more economical at the pump despite a slight overconsumption in use. Ford had obviously felt the blow, proposing for a few months a full range of E85 compatible vehicles. The Fiesta, Puma, Kuga and Focus as well as the Fiesta Business and Transit Connect (for professionals) are concerned. This strategy has paid off since Ford announces that it has more than 2 out of 3 orders (68%) in Flexifuel E85 in the last quarter of 2021. At the start of 2022, the manufacturer therefore unveils a redesigned version for the Puma.

E85 and micro-hybrid at the same time

So far, the Puma offered a micro-hybrid gasoline variant of 125 hp, or an E85 version of the 1.0 EcoBoost block of 125 hp without hybridization. Now, Ford chooses to simplify the thing automatically combining the two technologies. The Puma is therefore offered with an E85 micro-hybrid version, which further reduces its cost of use. Refueling is much cheaper, with an average cost of €0.75 per litre. Thanks to hybridization, CO2 emissions also drop, with 118 g/km announced. This makes it possible in particular to be eligible for the exemption from TVS for 12 quarters for companies.

This Puma “Flexifuel Hybrid” is available from €24,400 in Titanium finish, which is around €1,000 more than the old micro-hybrid or E85 petrol variants without MHEV. On the other hand, this variant does not have an automatic gearbox, reserved for petrol units of 125 and 155 hp for the moment.
