Lancia 037: the rally legend is reborn thanks to a small craftsman

The iconic Lancia 037 is not dead. A small craftsman brings it back to life through 37 copies soon to be marketed at an exorbitant price.

Kimera 037 EVO – The one who was world rally champion in 1983, before the Peugeot 205 T16 comes to play the spoilsport, resurfaces in 2021. The Stellantis group, which recently took the reins of Lancia, however has no link with this project which we owe to a small Italian company named Kimera Automobili.

Restomod spirit

The EVO37, that’s its name, makes a vibrant tribute to the Lancia 037 by modernizing the iconic look of the rally car, while using state-of-the-art technology, like a restomod. The Kimera EVO37 is powered by a 2.1 l 4-cylinder, like the 037 in its day, but this engine was redesigned under the direction of Claudio Lombardi, who was responsible for developing the engines for the original rally cars.

More than 500 hp

Thus passed into the hands of the sorcerer, this block has both a compressor and a turbocharger, like the Lancia Delta S4 which succeeded the 037 in rallying. Over 500 hp and 550 Nm of torque are sent to the rear wheels via a manual transmission. Its redesigned suspension is original from Ohlins, when braking is improved by a Brembo kit lurking behind 18 ″ wheels.

The carbon advantage

If the original Lancia 037 had fiberglass body panels, the Kimera 037 EVO prefers carbon fiber, for a total weight which should be around a ton, thus promising a first-rate weight / power ratio and fire performance.

Overpriced

The exterior of the car retains the overall silhouette of the Lancia 037, but adds modern parts to it, including LED front and rear lights. Kimera plans to assemble only 37 units at a rate of 480,000 €. The EVO37 will be presented to the public at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, before deliveries do not take place at the start of the next school year.
