Discover a new striking shot of the road exit and rolls suffered by Adrien Fourmaux’s Ford Puma Rally1 during Monte-Carl’.

During the third special stage of the 90th edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, Friday January 21, Adrien Fourmaux and Alexandre Coria had experienced a spectacular exit from the road, at km 12 of the first passage in Roure / Beuil (18.33 km). Due to an error in taking notes during reconnaissance, the French crew had arrived much too quickly when approaching a rapid sequence of S turns, a left immediately followed by a right turn. Result, the Ford Puma Rally1 n°16 had struck the rock face before being catapulted in a series of rolls making it take off over the safety barrier to finish its course below, in the ravine, among the trees. Fortunately, the driver and co-driver came out unscathed, despite a slight pain in one leg for Adrien Fourmaux. A few days after arrival, the many videos of this incident found an even more striking echo through a new exterior shot (see below).

This angle of view, captured from above at the exit from this right-hand bend, depicts the violence of the impact and the fulgurance of the exit at real speed. In their misfortune, Adrien Fourmaux and Alexandre Coria had the chance to avoid hitting a tree, just brushing against it. In motorsport and particularly in rallying, a side impact always constitutes a great risk of injury for the driver and his co-driver, although safety in the WRC has made great progress in this area over the past two decades. Moreover, the unpublished hybrid cars introduced this season are credited with a new roll cage and a reinforced protective foam structure.

This crash extends a bad series in this area for Adrien Fourmaux, especially on asphalt. In the second half of last year, the 26-year-old from the North rolled his Ford Fiesta WRC over the demanding Belgian roads of the Ypres Rally, while his final appearance at Monza was also brought to an abrupt end by a crash. . As a reminder, the Northerner had shone at the start of the 2021 season, notably finishing in fifth place overall in Croatia and Kenya. in 2022, Adrien Fourmaux takes part in his first full season in the premier category of the world rally championship. For its part, the British team M-Sport experienced a happy end to the race in Monte-Carlo thanks to the victory of Sébastien Loeb and his new co-driver Isabelle Galmiche, aboard the Ford Puma n°19, the Alsatian signing on this occasion his 80th victory in the WRC and improving several records, including that of the oldest winner in the world, at 47 years and 331 days.
