The Renault Clio receives a new range for 2022. A new entry-level Authentic lowers its price, displayed at €16,550.
Little by little, Renault is reviewing the range of all its models. Since the introduction of the electric Mégane, the usual finishes are gradually disappearing to make way for new nomenclatures. After the Kadjar and the Zoé, it’s the turn of the Clio to receive these modifications. As of February 1, 2022, the Clio therefore abandons the Zen, Business, Limited or Intens. From now on, the Clio has five finishes: Authentic, Equilibre, Evolution, Techno and RS Line. We therefore note the presence of the RS Line variant in the catalog, despite the shutdown of Renault Sport at the end of December 2021.
A new entry-level from €16,550
The entry level is represented by a new Authentic version, which recalls the Authentic finish of the early 2000s. It is only available with the small 65 hp petrol engine, from €16,550. A good point all the same, since the Clio had recently undergone the removal of the entry-level Life, raising its access price to more than €18,000. The Clio Authentic, on the other hand, is satisfied with the minimum: 15-inch sheet metal rims, simple car radio instead of the Easy Link screen, manual air conditioning, automatic lights and wipers, electric front windows, side moldings and handles for black doors…
The Clio Equilibre, which replaces the Zen variant, has more engine choices (90 hp TCe, 145 hp hybrid like the Captur instead of 140 hp previously, etc.). It is accessible from €19,350. Above, the finishes of the Clio are reworked. The Evolution version is a mix of the old Limited and Business finishes (reserved for professionals), and is displayed from €19,450 with the 65 hp SCe. Finally, at the top of the range, we find the Techno variant, which replaces the Intens finish. It starts at €21,850 with the 90 hp TCe. This top-of-the-range version is recognizable by its extensive equipment (auto air conditioning, 7-inch digital counters, reversing camera, Multi-Sense driving modes, etc.) and its specific design made of glossy black elements.
The Reworked Hybrid
On the engine side, the Clio reviews its hybridization to increase the power by five horsepower and reach 145 hp, like the Captur. This also makes it easier to differentiate it from the TCe 140 hp petrol unit, offered on the high-end Techno and RS Line finishes. This revised hybrid version, passed for homologation, makes it possible to gain even more in efficiency with CO2 emissions of between 94 and 98 g/km, and a consumption given for 4.2 to 4.3 l/100 km over the cycle. WLTP.
Among other changes, Renault announces stopping two shades (Quartz White and Celadon Blue) and the removal of certain chromes for shiny black: door pillars, side molding, window surrounds… The light ambience in the doors and the black roof sky also disappear.
