Our colleagues from Auto-Plus unveil the list of the most stolen models in 2022. And surprise, it is a Japanese woman who comes first.
Every day, no less than 336 cars are stolen, or around 120,000 per year. A worrying figure, which unfortunately does not really drop over the years, despite the many technological solutions developed to protect and find stolen vehicles. Electronic protections, alarms and other trackers no longer seem sufficient to deter thugs, who show ingenuity to steal the cars they covet. If everyone can one day be a victim, some vehicles are nevertheless more sought after than others. Our colleagues fromAuto-Plus just unveiled the list of the most stolen models in 2022, and some should surprise you.
The Toyota Prius in the lead
We would have thought that the most stolen car in France was the Peugeot 3008, widespread and much appreciated by thugs. However, it is the Toyota Prius which tops this sad ranking, whereas it did not even appear there last year. This should not be seen as a sudden desire to drive a hybrid on the part of thieves, who rather covet the catalytic converter of the compact, which contains a very high content of rare metals, which are therefore very expensive for resale. In 2nd position, we find the DS 7 Crossback, in the lead last year, which unfortunately suffers from a very easy to hack opening system.
The SUV is followed by the Renault Megane RS, while the Clio IV and Mégane IV complete the ranking. Unsurprisingly, it is in Île-de-France that you are most at risk of having your car stolen. Indeed, according to our colleagues, 55,000 vehicles were stolen there in 2021.
