Based on the same MEB platform as that of the Volkswagen ID.3, the Cupra Born adopts a decidedly more sporty and premium style. It will be marketed in the fall.
Cupra, the sports division of Seat become a brand in its own right, has officially lifted the veil on the production version of the Cupra Born, its first car 100% electric. The foretaste we had of it last summer promised an electric sports car with a style very assertive and it must be admitted quite attractive.
Based on MEB platform dedicated to the electric vehicles of the Volkswagen group, the Cupra Born therefore shares a technical base with the Volkswagen ID.3. It is available in three 110 kW / 150 hp, 150 kW / 204 hp and 170 kW / 231 hp engines which all develop 310 Nm of torque. The most powerful Cupra Born will swallow the 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 seconds. For the battery, we are also on three inputs with 45, 58 and 77 kWh respectively offering 310, 420 and 540 km of autonomy. The 77 kWh battery is compatible with a 125 kW load. Cupra announces a delay of 7 minutes to restore 100 km of autonomy.
Recycled materials for the interior
We will not go over the style of the Cupra Born that we have already mentioned in the article below. It will be available in six colors, with the possibility of opting for inserts your copper which enhance the lines of the bodywork and the passenger compartment. A sporty atmosphere that is also found inside with bucket seats, a “racing” steering wheel with a flat in its lower part. Of course, the infotainment is highlighted with a large 12-inch touch screen that sits in the center of the dashboard and an augmented reality head-up display.
Cupra emphasizes the use of recycled materials for the manufacture of the passenger compartment. This is the case for the central part of the bucket seats made from a Seaqual yarn produced from plastic recovered from the oceans. Cupra has not yet communicated on the prices of the different versions of the Born. It should arrive in concession at theautumn next.
The electric sports car Cupra el-Born arrives in 2021 with 500 km of autonomy

Cupra, the sports division of Seat which has become a brand in its own right, has just unveiled its very first electric model. An attractive compact sports car that promises generous autonomy and a power of 315 hp.
Unveiled last year at the Geneva Motor Show by Seat, the el-Born concept found its declination commercial in the form of the Cupra el-Born. The Spanish brand from the sports division of Seat will therefore have the exclusivity of this five model. doors compact with sporty lines which will also be its first electric car. Platform-based MEB dedicated to the electric vehicles of the Volkswagen group to which belongs Cupra, el-Born will arrive in concessions next year.
The body design plays on a muscular style with its front headlights that stretch over the fenders and the hood plunging on a large openwork grille. Matte paint and copper inserts are the Cupra signature that can also be found in the cabin with bucket seats and a sporty steering wheel on which the drive selector is located. The manufacturer announces a head-up display system with augmented reality which will probably be the same as that of the Volkswagen ID.3. Cupra also says to have used recycled materials for the passenger compartment, without specifying which ones.
82 kWh battery
As for the engine, the details are still succinct. We just know that the Cupra el-Born will develop 315 hp and can shoot 0 to 50 km / h in 2.9 seconds. For autonomy, the 82 kWh battery will cover up to 500 km and 30 minutes of rapid charging will be enough to restore 260 km.
The Cupra el-Born will be manufactured in the Zwickau plant in Germany where the Volkswagen ID.3. Its price is not yet known.
