The Twingo remains the favorite micro-city car of the French, in 8th place. It now offers the choice between thermal and electric.
Which version to choose?
Renault Twingo Electric Zen (24 250 €)
Much more tonic than the only 65 hp thermal version, this electric Twingo is now the only “automatic” in the range. More than its power, relatively modest (82 hp), it is its immediate torque (160 Nm) which gives it more than acceptable performance despite being overweight 180 kg, including on expressways where it still looks good despite a speed limited to 135 km / h. All, of course, in silence. Three driving modes are available, which affect the level of regeneration of the batteries, and therefore the engine brake: “freewheel”, “medium” and “reinforced”, the latter making it possible to almost no longer use the brake pedal. brake. Announced for 190 km according to the WLTP cycle, the real range easily exceeds 160 km. The icing on the cake, the ecological bonus makes this trendy Twingo accessible from less than € 16,000.
Qualities
In addition to its characteristic face and its small size (3.61 m long), the famous Twingo shines with its exceptional handling favored by a transmission to the rear wheels … ; enough to turn around in a handkerchief, thanks to a “best in class” turning diameter of 8.60 m. It shares its technical base with its first cousin the Smart ForFour, which explains that. Enough to make her the queen of cities where one also appreciates her particularly sweet orders. In addition to a dapper interior ambience, which pays homage to the original Twingo, this 5-door, 4-seater offers a livability and, above all, a modularity accomplished, with two rear seatbacks, and the right front, folding, offering a loading length of 2.31 m (or even 2.55 m to the base of the windshield), to say the least unusual in the category. Its balanced behavior allows it to complete (small) road steps without blushing.
Defaults
Main fault of the micro city car at the Losange, the firmness of its damping – especially at the level of the rear axle – which partly affects the comfort and will disappoint, in particular, the followers of the models of the preceding generations. Another drawback, a trunk that only cubs 188 liters (174 on the electric version), due to the location of the engine at the rear (like the Renault 8 and 4 CV), and in which it is necessary to take care, on the thermal version, not to leave frozen products due to the heat released by the engine! Already little supplied, mechanical supply has shrunk like hell since the arrival, last fall, of an electric version which adopts the block of the Zoe. Of the three petrol versions, 65, 75 and 95 hp, only the first remains, which its modest cavalry (65 hp) confined to urban use, and which no longer gives access to the excellent robotic box that could equip the version. 95 ch. In short, everything now pleads in favor of the electric version …
Notice
If the Twingo remains a convincing micro-urban, it offers only two choices of engines: thermal “basic” or electric.
